Title: Structure-Based Ontology Extensions (PhD Thesis Proposal)

Abstract:

Ontology design processes are often elaborate and time-consuming. Existing approaches to automated ontology extension are usually based on domain literature or other external sources, which may be prone to bias and inconsistencies. In this doctoral thesis, we will propose an alternative approach that is based solely on an existing ontology and structural annotations that are associated with its classes. We will discuss past research that we were involved in and the prospective architecture based on the domain of chemistry – more specifically the ChEBI ontology.
