Title: | Results and Current Developments in and of the open_eGo and open_FRED Projects |
A modern and flexible structure of the electricity grid is a key requirement for higher feed-in participation from renewable energy sources. The respective research including computation-heavy simulations has been decentralised and heterogeneous. Especially the distribution and persistent storage of input data and results has been an open problem that led to a lack of transparency and reproducibility. The Project open_eGo included not only the development of a new inter-grid-level grid planning tool but also the conceptualisation and development of an Open Energy Platform (OEP) and database that allows researchers to publish their datasets. This talk will include a description of all key functionalities and discuss their benefit for transparent research in energy modelling. The talk will also touch on the goals and recent developments in the open_FRED project, whose main purpose is the development of publicly available set of weather data for the last fifteen years. The project integrates with the open_FRED project by publishing the dataset to the OEP and by both, using and enhancing the OEP's data access facilities to lower the usage barrier for the published dataset.
